Mutual Aid Weekly Distro
Since the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic, MAP has supported the relief efforts of the grassroots group Grand Junction Mutual Aid by providing accessibility to resources and coordinating volunteers.
Our strategic relationships with community organizations and social service agencies, has made it possible to distribute large quantities of food where it’s needed most.
Special thanks to our partners Food Bank of the Rockies, Community Food Bank, Soup Kitchen at Catholic Outreach, The Community Alliance for Education & Hunger Relief and our countless volunteers!
Pounds of Food Distributed
Every Tuesday Grand Junction Mutual Aid volunteers transform a few hundred square feet of parking lot into a fully functional community center right in the heart of Grand Junction, Colorado. The Unitarian Universalist Congregation of the Grand Valley graciously provides us space to provide essential services to our neighbors and friends. This gives us the opportunity to provide assistance to anyone who needs it.
This event requires around 20 volunteer staff each week to pull off successfully. We are always on the lookout for more passionate individuals who want to get involved with Mutual Aid.
On-site services include:
- Free choice food pantry
- Hygiene essentials (toiletries, sanitizer, masks)
- Sack lunches, deli sandwiches & hydration station
- Human resource advocacy & navigation
- Nutrition classes
- Hair cuts
- Dog & cat vaccinations
- Dog & cat food
- COVID vaccination education & sign-ups
- And much more!
What are the best times to volunteer?
Be at UU at 9AM for setup
You’ll be asked to lift boxes, tables, and other heavy items so come prepared to work!
You’ll be asked to assist participants in selecting food items and bagging them. This is a great way to contribute if you are only available for an hour or so.
Show up at 1PM to help us tear down and clean up the parking lot for the church. We are usually done by 2PM.
