Senior Engagement- A Mutual Aid Network

Senior Engagement is composed of 28 team leads engaging hundreds of volunteers and donors in our community to find ways to bring joy, kindness, connection, love and dignity to our area senior citizens.

From little children drawing pictures and theatre kids performing, to whole families creating crafts and cards, and of course our generous donors, everyone in this community is working together creatively to ensure our seniors feel special.

The project coordinates gift deliveries at 23 local facilities, working with staff and administration to safely deliver the cheer under pandemic guidelines.

The group was started in November 2020 by Brenda Case, with the goal of bringing community members of all ages together to spread joy to senior citizens living in senior care facilities, or otherwise homebound at Christmas time and in quarantine in our area. After delivering more than 2,100 Christmas gifts, the group was energized and immediately began planning for the next project.

Next came Valentine’s Day, St. Patricks’ Day, Easter, Mother’s Day, Halloween and now, over 4,500 seniors have felt the love this year alone!

Brenda Case, who coordinates the overall Senior Engagement project, says the idea came from years of being a full time caregiver for her own mother and seeing how lonely being a patient can be, even in the best of circumstances. Well, as we all know, 2020 certainly was not the best of circumstances, so when she saw an opportunity to recruit like-minded people, she jumped at it!
